The Columbia River Gorge is full of interesting places to visit on main highways and a score of small two lane roads. With a diversity in microclimates from 64 inches of rain at the west end near Stevenson, WA to less than 10 inches of rain to the east end of the Gorge, land goes from rain forest like to semi arid desert conditions.

The history of the Gorge has the same type of diversity with the explorations of Lewis and Clark to the pioneers who traveled the Oregon Trail to the farmers who planted the first apples and pears in the late 1800’s making orchards a viable business for the area.
