There
IS a wide variety of excellent
artists in
the Columbia Gorge in every medium from watercolor to pastel
to oils. Exhibits displayed
throughout the hotel change regularly.
Hotel owners, Mike and Denise McCravey, believe being surrounded
by beautiful art inspires creativity and allows a peaceful resting
place for the soul.
“The lobby is beginning to resemble an art gallery. Actually
the art extends throughout the main floor of the hotel “ said
Denise. “We want to feature some of the fine artists in
the Gorge. Displays change every few weeks. Select choices of gift
items will always be available like hand blown glass fleurettes
and stunning floral displays.”

Excerpt from an interview
Gorge Living Summer Issue 2004:
A clown was the first painting the 7-year-old girl had entered
in a museum art contest. Painted in an after school art class
the painting
won first place. Even then the little girl from Austin, Texas
knew she loved being an artist.
Now a five foot tall slight woman with silver hair, shy smile,
eyes lit with Texas determination, and countless paintings
completed, Cathleen Rehfeld is known as an artist who only
works in oils.
Vivid
landscapes, portraits of people with eyes revealing a lifetime
of emotions and still life paintings show the wide range of
her work.
A degree in Fine Art from the University of Texas, years of
working as a graphic designer plus hours upon hours of painting
and drawing
have earned her the experience necessary to be a full time
artist. Winning regional and national awards added solid
layers of foundation
for the future.
“Moving to Oregon marked a positive change in my painting.
The adopted rural setting was the catalyst I needed to prompt into
the Gorge
with my paints. Today, the outdoors is my primary studio
and source of inspiration.” shares Rehfeld.
Paintings by Cathleen Rehfeld are available from the Hotel and
range from $350.00 – $1,200.00. Contact
us for more information.

Fleurettes in different sizes are blown exclusively for the Oak
Street Hotel.
Color,
movement and form are dynamic elements of hand blown
glass. The Oak Street Hotel displays glass Fleurettes (flowers
in French),
vases and salmon. Our designer artfully arranges them in
groupings or with other items showing how versatile the
glass forms are
in many settings.
Andy Nichols blows beautiful flowers with curling stems
exclusively for the Oak Street Hotel. Fleurettes vary
in size from 4
to 8 inches. A melody of colors flow from the edges of
the flower
through the
stem. Light plays on the curvaceous surfaces. Petit Fleurettes
can be grouped on a tray or placed beside a bowl of colorful
fruit for
a table top display to delight the eye.
